AEROCLUB AOSTA VALLEY

Flying, oh, oh or air and poetry love in the valdostan skies

To know any more….

SHORT STORY OF AEROCLUB VALLE D'AOSTA
by arch. Enrico Girardi.
areoclub valle d'aosta Airport foundation has been due to the enthousiasm of a fans group who in 1956 by waiting Aeroclub Italia recognition, created the Valdostan Aeronautic association. They evolved such an interest that Regional Administration decided to build the airport. About the end of 1958, before the landing strip works be over, the Association counted almost two hundreds members and has been federated to the Aeroclub Italia with the name of Aeroclub Valle d'Aosta. We started to fly on the new airport on May 10th,1959 and quite at the same time the training operation initiates. At the beginning, airport managing was trusted to Aeroclub by Regional Administration.

One of the first valdostan pilots who sat for the pilot licence was the young councillor of Public Instruction, Corrado Gex, who devoted himself with passion and enthusiasm to the study and pratice of flying in mountain. He was the first italian pilot to get the provisory authorization to land on the glaciers. As deputy, he presented on october 29th, 1965, the law decree to make free the landing areas. Owing to this law, it is now possible to work outside the airports by landing on any suitable surface, glacier, field, lake or river. If Aosta gets presently one of the most qualified operative Civil Protection Center, it is mainly due to Aeroclub impulse and activity along those years, when Club members dedicated themselves in searching lost people, helping injured people and suppling food to the high mountain shelters, not having any other organization available.
At the beginning of the sixties gliding starts too. In 1964, the AerAosta has been founded and began to lead turists and skiers on the glaciers owing to a Pilatus Porter with ski

Technological evolution as well as eonomical and social changes appeared in the course of these years and modified the realty in which the club has been ever working. Club importance as assistance structure has greatly decreased. A Civil Protection structure replaced volunteers and mobile helicopters replaced the planes with fixed wings

. In 1987 Aeroclub does not administrate any more the airport. Air Vallée has been founded. In addition of the first regular air connections from Aosta, some modification have been carried out in order to turn the local airport for the private planes into an internatinal airport with commercial flights.

. Nowadays, all kinds of flights are present in Aeroclub Valle d'Aosta which can compete with every specific flights and it is possible to sit for every air patents, except helicopters one. The school club owns indeed discplinary measures to sit for the following licences and certifications : Gliding Private Pilot patent - Air plane Pilot licence - Montgolfier Piltot patent - Parachutist patent - Certificate of flying sports, model aircraft patent
The possibile practice of any specialities, contrarily to what it happens in the other biggest clubs, is due to the fact that Aosta enjoys a special environment in which this kind of activities are evolving.

Flying through the mountain is a stirring and exciting sensation. The constant presence of the mountains backwards gives us a movement, flight and freedom sensation. Here the sky is living. You can feel it under the wings. Here flying is Flying.
